About the Book:
The nonfiction The Truth About Sex Trafficking: A Survivor’s Experience and What It Means for All of Us is published by Melanie K. Patterson under the Forged In Words Press imprint. The book follows the story of Angela before, during and after her terrifying experience as a sex trafficking victim. Angela was seventeen when she was manipulated into entering “the life.” For two years, she lived in terror of being killed if she didn’t do what her traffickers made her do.
The author interviewed anti-trafficking advocates, law enforcement, mental health experts and other professionals to get an understanding of how pervasive human sex trafficking is in the United States today. It exists in cities, in rural areas and in the suburbs. Traffickers can be boyfriends, spouses, aunts, uncles, pastors, teachers, coaches, parents, grandparents or anyone else who has access to children and vulnerable adults.
The book shatters myths and misconceptions about human sex trafficking and also addresses the roles of the following regarding sex trafficking:
Internet, smart phones, online games, apps
Pornography
Childhood sexual abuse
Trauma
Federal anti-trafficking laws
